Puzzle 31

Actually I have no idea why I'm here.
I guess I'm just bored after studying so much (i.e. not much).
Oh well, since I'm feeling kind of bored, I might as well post the next puzzle.

CHECKERBOARD

Difficulty: Medium

One rainy day I was playing with my imaginary friend a game. I brought out 64 dominoes for us to play with. You see, my friend isn't exactly the brightest light bulb in the room, so he still didn't understand how to play dominoes after I explained to him how to.

Then I had an idea. I took out 2 normal 8x8 checkerboards, and I told him we would be playing a game where the first person to fill up the checkerboard wins. It's boring, I know, but at least he understood the rules.

Unfortunately, due to a recent "flood" in my house, the checkerboards were waterlogged. 2 squares of opposite corners fell off each checkerboard, so there were only 62 unit squares left on each checkerboard.

How should I arrange the dominoes such that they would fill up the entire checkerboard now? Oh, and I don't want to break any dominoes.

I've decided not to post Puzzle 30's answer.

Sep Hols so far~

Sup peeps.

This blog is soooo dead. So I shall make it alive.

yep. it's currently the September Hols now. okay they shouldn't even call it a holiday cos basically it's just a time where you get crammed with homework and revision and mugging for EOYs ._. pfft. yeah.

so i shall try my best to make a list of homework we have. try only. emphasis on the word  try. cos i stupidly left my handbook and zuo ye ben and ke ben in my locker -.-

September Holiday Homework:
1) Math Past Year Practice Papers (2007-2011)
2) Chinese chang wen suo duan thingy
3) Math angles and polygons elearning
4) LA Present Perfect Magazine Comprehension
5) Geography September Term Break Individual Revision Assignment (which if you forgot, is 2 DRQs and 3 essays)
6) Math Set Theory Assignment

okay that's all i can rmb for now. off to do geog now.

Alessia~

p.s. I have tried my best to do a proper blog update.

Puzzle 30

Oh yay...
Yet another puzzle...
This should be fun (sort of)...
I just wishe

(Note from Blog Overlord: The rest of this prologue has been censored due to lack of enthusiasm)

SIMILAR, YET DIFFERENT
Difficulty: Medium
What ubiquitous item, when folded into half, is still (mathematically) similar to its original shape (i.e. when it was not folded)? What gives this item that special property?

Hooray... Now for the answer to the previous puzzle...
I'm sure I don't need to tell you what to do...
Sorry, it's an awful pun, the answer. It's the letter 'A', because all it takes to make her (into) hear is the letter A.
._.

Hello

0100000101011000110001111. 01111010110000111001 1001101111 01001 1001101000000010110001100 1011110010010011010000101 10100010000100110011 0100101110 000100100101110000011001011001 :D Okay maybe not.

Hello :D

So today was class lunch day [Day 4] and I guess it was very good :D (Be jealous, other readers.) As for the truth, I shall hide that. Well, if you are not from 2K, yes, ignore my previous sentence because class lunch was a huge success. Okay I shall walk away from this topic.

I shall begin with homework given today [26 July 2012, Day 4] to benefit the absentees.
LA Passage-based test [tomorrow]
HCL 小练笔

Yup. That's all given today. So... nothing much to talk about.

The usual stuff that happens everyday, but with more absentees today.

I shall move on to something else. Hmm, I can't think of much at the moment. I've decided to write this blog post yet I have no apparent reason to. Hmm shall write another homework review:

Things not handed it yet:
(sorry this is off my head)
LA Opinion Piece #7
LA Role Play
HCL 小练笔
Maths Assignment
Maths Past Year Revision Papers
Science Worksheet (Forces)
Geography Performance Task 2
History SBQ Practice

Yup, that's all. Shall go now, bye!
It's not that the man did not know how to juggle, he just didn't have the balls to do it.

Hello

It's been a long time, really, since someone posted an actual post here. I'm not good with posts but I suddenly decide to write one. Actually, I'm not really going to write it. I'm going to type it.

So I have absolutely nothing to post about and I will ruin the mood by posting the homework we have:

21 July 2012
Merchant of Venice worksheet (quotes)
Chinese Workbook
Science worksheet
Geography Performace Task 2
History worksheet (6 cabinet ministers)

I guess that is all. Remember to bring your ties the day before the day after the day after the day before the day after the day after today.

I will continue a lengthy post to spend my time on. I guess much has happened. With the new Whatsapp group Ryan severely disapproves of... Sorry, this is not directed at you, Ryan. Some random things... Miss Pamela Kuppusamy Samales is our new form teacher. Okay not new but you get the idea that we just got her. So yeah lots of stuff happened recently and it's so overwhelming. Less than 70 days to EOYs. EOYs is 51 days after the common tests. Deducting the September "holidays", we have one and a half month to study hard for the End-of-Year examinations.

I shall not spoil the mood with all the studying and academic things.

Speaking of which, the 3.6km run is coming up ;o I know everyone is turning lazy and would rather go for the 2.0km run. Or should I more specifically point out, 2.0km walk. Oh, I hope we get 8 volunteers by then.

Random Updates:
Po-Chien is on Facebook.

Si Kai is on Facebook.

That was really random to insert it there but oh, it doesn't matter. As you can probably tell I'm extremely bored now. I shall now use MS Paint to do some drawings. Yes, I use MS Paint. But not to photoshop myself :D

Well I think this post is quite long and I really have nothing to do. If something pops into my mind when writing this, I mean typing, I'll include it in. Oh, if you guys didn't know, Vinnie has made a new resolution to never sleep in class. So if you're sitting near her, please shake her head when she is falling asleep. I think that lessons are so dead nowadays...

Speaking of sitting, sitting will harm our backs as it is not the static position of homo-sapiens. I don't mean to say we have to go down on all fours but standing would be better. Not that I would want this to be implemented, but evolution has changed as so much that we can find sitting comfortable. I mean, don't you have the urge to place your hands on the ground and crawl all the time?

I have digressed so much, yet you can't consider it digression since I have no main point. By the way, the next time we role-play the Merchant of Venice, we should nominate (note: It's nominate and not volunteer) some falsely-rumoured couples in our class. Here's a list of random suggestions. Yes, the rumours are false yet we are having fun with them. How amusing.

Combo A:
Chu Yi Xuan Vinnie as Portia
Ang Zhi Xian as Bassanio

Combo B:
Chu Yi Xuan Vinnie as Portia
Amos Goh Jun Xuan as Bassanio

Combo C:
Lim Li Xuan Sherlyn as Portia
Amos Goh Jun Xuan as Bassanio

Combo D:
Shermaine Loke Jia Qi as Portia
Ong Chee Hsien Marcus as Bassanio

Combo E:
Kok Jia Xuan as Portia
Ong Chee Hsien Marcus as Bassanio

and last and for all, if we manage to invite in a special guest,

Combo F:
Chong Kay Heen as Portia
Pang Bang Yong as Bassanio

Well I think I've wasted lots of space writing that. And now I have found something interesting to do. Note: Everything done here is only done for the purpose of it and no implications are made. Similarities to real names are purely coincidental. I'm sorry it sounds like a movie and we're trying to choose a nice popcorn combo.

On a side note,
A great thank you to those who have been visiting this blog frequently, Alessia, Ryan, Glen and Si Kai.

Goodbye.
Fact: Goodbyes are supposed to be good.

dead blog is dead ._.

haha i'm just trying to keep this blog alive.

Puzzle 29

Hi!

It's the last day of school for this semester! Have fun and enjoy the long deserved break!
Anyway, here's the puzzle...

CONNED
Difficulty: Hard

An old man, who had a deaf wife, met a conman who claimed that he could make her hear if she opened an envelope he had on him.
Believing the conman, the old man purchased the envelope at a hefty price and brought it to his wife.
When she opened the envelope, the old man realised that the conman was in fact telling the truth, yet oddly enough his wife did not recover her hearing.
So... what was in the envelope?

Do remember to leave your guesses as comments! :)
Okay, now for the answer to the previous puzzle... drag your mouse over the empty space below to reveal the answer!

You would notice that the heterological is neither autological nor heterological.
Heterological can't be heterological because it that case it describes itself, which would make it autological.
But heterological can't be autological either because that would be self-contradictory.

:)
You-Know-Who-I-Am

Game.

Hello,

I see a Grammar Nazi has stepped in to cease all poor grammar growing on the blog like E. coli and that the blog is room temperature Canadian Beef. Spicing up the end of what seems to be the Common Tests, which is very common indeed, I communicate with all through this post to let known to you the "I don't even game". I suppose some might have touched, heard or seen this before, but most probably have not. Continue to search the game on Google, but if you're overwhelmed with lethargy, here's the link  http://www.lawlolawl.com/blog/games/i-dont-even-game/ which I have taken the liberty to paste here. This seemingly lengthy and wordy post might have successfully put you off the sleep, but just click the game. And speaking of which, I lost it. I have noticed that some people see no purpose in playing The Game. Well, it is a psychological test, actually. Have you read the book "The Velocity of Honey?" If you haven't, you should. The Game aims to provide a psychological mindset that your brain generates to think about something more after you contemplated you want to not think about it. Well, the analysis of The Game is conducted in universities so it would be a good introduction for us all if we begin the simple wondering of why trying to forget something makes us remember about it more than we do for things we want to remember. Oh, The Game is used because it is a more common word, concise and to the point. This leads to the conjunction that when we see "game" we can link it to "The Game". If this post has dragged you into a world of boredom that you want to press the red button all the way to the top right hand corner, please, do what you want. If you're still interested, try examining the Truth Table in relation to Pascal's triangle. Well, this concludes the post. And those were just suggestions on how to elapse the last 7 and a half hours of this day in-lieu of Vesak Day. And don't forget the Geography Essay due in another 7 hours and 25 minutes, assuming it's 4.34pm now.

Time ticks, moments don't last. You just missed another moment reading this line.

Joyce

YAY~ i didnt forget after all!~

;O

Hello,

haven't been posting much for a long time. So basically here is a video on what we saw on Friday ;)

Video on Natrium Hydroxide experiment

Sodium + Water --> Sodium Hydroxide + Hydrogen Gas
[technically, this is wrong cause the sodium reacts with oxygen to form sodium oxide even before it is put in water.) [or it reacts with water vapour to already form sodium hydroxide]

This experiment is more 'wild' and the proportion of sodium is great.

Natrium is of course a fun thing to experiment with. Here's what they did:
Trash Can Explosion

Well, that's all.

Bye ;)

Puzzle 28

Hi!

Sorry Si Kai, your "puzzle" has been rendered invalid.

I shall return to post on this blog again, as my duty as a citizen of the 2 Kejuju Blog (yours too), albeit intermittently.
This blog is on its last... something. Anyway, here's the puzzle!

AUTOLOGICALLY HETEROLOGICAL

Difficulty: Very Hard

Now, let's take a break from maths and learn a few vocabulary. :)

An autological word is a word that basically describes itself.
Confused? For example, "polysyllabic", "English" and "word" are all autological (Because "polysyllabic" is polysyllabic, "English" is in English, and "word" is a word).

A heterological word is just the opposite; it does not describe itself. "Red", "chair" and "quickly" are all heterological words.

You can basically group all the words in the English language as either autological or heterological. However, you'll soon realise that there is one word that does not really belong to either of these groups... do you know what it is?

If you want a hint, drag your mouse over the empty space below:

It's a word that can be found in this post!

Now to the answer to the Puzzle 27... drag your mouse over the empty space below to reveal the answer! Oh, and do remember to post your answers in the comments :)

31! The sequence is not 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64... but 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 31, 57...

If you don't believe me, here's a picture of how a cake shared by 6 people will be cut like. Count up the number of pieces yourself!

:)

Random blog game of random

^^^^^^
Look at the title.
Ok, as you can see im trying to make a blog game (lol actually same as forum game, but on the blog), to well, intrest you guys.

SO WHAT KIND OF STUFF YOU WANT.

Answer in the comments section!

Short post is short.

A Sign I Ink

The Noose

harro peepo :D

I guess our blog's kinda dead know, cos im seriously surprised to see pochien's post as the second "latest" post :O so i thought that i'll blog a short post or sth.

Btw, jus to clarify, my name is spelled as SHERLYN and not shelyn ._. sikai, im disappointed in you D: *shakes head*

Okay, so as the title suggests, if you guys have no idea wat "the noose" is, u are currently missing one of the greatest entertainment shows in singapore, or mayb even in asia >< it'll take a long time for me to explain how awesome dis show is, so i'll jus bring out an example. Our blog rep, ryan, terribly detests all singapore's shows as he finds them unoriginal and uninteresting (or for watever other reasons) but he simply loves THE NOOSE and cant miss a single ep of it :D see how great it is now? so, enough said. here's the link to xinmsn.com for your convenience to catch dis show (or if you're already watching it but hav missed an ep or 2 cos ur busy getting drowned by the amt of schlwork :x)

http://video.xin.msn.com/browse/catch-up-tv/the-noose5

The noose its already on season 5 now! so its obvious how good it is or it'll not progress so wonderfully :DDD

so... enjoy :)

Happy birthday!!

Hi everyone, your chairman (who disappeared recently) here. Today we should celebrate our dear Bryan's birthday. With no Po-Chien.

No PC.

K anyways. Bryan, our almighty ex-leader is gonna be 14 today n let's give him a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY !
And of course his Man U tee.
And his hug from moma
And his hug from daddy
And....maybe some Cake!
YAY!

Now Bryan, make a wish!

K I should stop torturing all of you with my lame jokes(copy-and-pasted from the net)
So happy birthday Bryan!
:D

SOPA (video)

My post isnt gonna be as long, excellent-written nor as detailed as the one that Ryan has written. But i happened to come across this video when i was youtubing for ANTI-SOPA vids and thought that it practically sumarizes everything that ryan has said in his post and all the cons of SOPA. And so, without further ado, here it is:

With SOPA, i guess, as teenagers, the impact which would hit us the greatest would be our main source of info when doing research, our free song downloads, watching of MVs online and not to forget, the lives of many, FACEBOOK. And with SOPA, there would no longer be youtube.com and of course, an immediate example would be that you wouldnt be able to watch the above video. No more youtube, facebook or even WIKI!!! can you imagine the life?!? de internet wld hardly be of any use to us if SOPA were approved.

See the impact? Felt it? Now dont you feel like cursing the person who came up with this idea of SOPA? (xD)

Well, but sadly, ur sadness isnt gonna do much D: so turn yout thoughts into action by signing the petition dat ryan has given you!!!

NOW!!!

k, i know that most of you will b too lazy to scroll all the way down to find the hyperlink. so heres the link for your convenience:

http://americancensorship.org/modal/state-dept-petition/index.html#

STOP SOPA!!!

Bad Joke.

Hello,

Firstly, thank you Ryan for the videos. Secondly, the joke.

Knock Knock!

Who’s there?

Doughnut!

Doughnut who?

Doughnut worry it is just a bad joke!

It is a bad joke, right?

Yes, and the QUOTE OF THE DAY is:

"The balls are flyin everywhere!!!"

Yes, it probably came about during PE lessons day.

Goodbye.

Puzzle 27

Hi!
Yes, the bi-weekly puzzles is back, hopefully for good! I had mentioned this in my previous blog post (unless of course, you didn't understand it) on puzzles.

Anyway, here's Puzzle 27!

CAKE CUTTING

Difficulty: Hard

I know of an interesting fellow that cuts cakes in the oddest ways. Apparently a "fair slice" isn't in his vocabulary.

He cuts the cakes by the number of people there are sharing it, like most of us. Only he does so slightly differently...

You see, he first marks out a number of point(s) on the edge of the cake, which is equal to the number of people sharing the cake. Then he cuts between the point(s).

Here's an example to show you what I mean, with a diagram to make it clearer.

If he's the only person having the cake, he'll mark 1 point on the circumference. Obviously he can't cut anything, so there will only be one slice of cake.
If there are 2 people, he'll mark 2 points on the circumference. He cuts between the 2 points to make 2 slices.
If there are 3 people, he'll mark 3 points on the circumference. He cuts a line between each of the 3 points, creating 4 slices.
And if there are 4 people, he'll mark 4 points on the circumference, and cut a line between each of the 4 points, creating 8 slices.

Now, what is the maximum number of slices of cake there will be if there are 6 people sharing the cake and he cuts the cake in this odd way?

Okay, that might've been a little hard to swallow, but you get the idea, no? Please post your answers under comments!

Right, time for the answer to Puzzle 26. If you hadn't seen it you should at least have a go... it has an unusually low response.

Just turn it upside down!
98 X 60 when turned upside down is 09 X 86, which is equal to 774!

:)
