Puzzle 24
Hi!
Looking forward to the class outing... but I'm wondering if I could park my bicycle outside Kallang Leisure Park. That way travelling to the Kallang Leisure Park to school and then back home would be so much easier.
Anyway, here's Puzzle 24!
Difficulty: Hard
All right, for once I'm going to break my self-imposed rule of prohibiting 2 same consecutive difficulty levels (you would've noticed this if you had a sharp eye).
Prove that the following statements are true:
1) 1/2 X 8 = 3
2) 1/2 X 9 = 4
By the way, if we can get to set our own Maths test paper, I would like to set the bonus question :) I cannot put the questions up on the blog, however, because online calculators are far better than the calculators we currently have. Hence, it'll spoil the whole method of solving my question.
Anyway, brace yourself for some illogical logic propaganda (A.K.A. logical fallacies) as you drag your mouse over the empty space below to reveal the answer to Puzzle 23...
Alright, we'll have to explain the puzzle point by point.

- If the people surveyed prefer to spread jam than to spread anything else, that means they feel that "no (other) spread is better than jam".
- If the people surveyed would rather have peanut butter than to have no spread, that means they feel that "peanut butter is better than no spread".
If peanut butter is better than no spread, and no spread is better than jam...
Peanut butter is better than no spread which is better than jam
Peanut butter is better than jam
:)

all i can say is "..." Lols but nice one :D
i didnt think of that.
lol wut word game?
1/2x9=1/2x10-1/2x1=1/2x10-1=5-1=4? Is it?
then the 1st one:
1/2x8=1/2x10-1/2x2=1/2x10-2=5-2=3?
Good try, but the equation doesn't really add up properly. :)
Hint: The puzzle cannot be solved using maths alone.
er... cut 9 in the middle with a vertical line and you will get a 4 on the left side, then cut 8 using same method to get 3?
You got the first one right! The second one is solved in a similar method, but it's more indirect :)
